The future of Austin’s iconic environmental and cultural project has officially been unveiled.
This evening, Waller Creek Conservancy publicly introduced the future of its organization and announced for the first time the name of its signature project: Waterloo Greenway.
History of Palm School
On the corner of Cesar Chavez and the IH-35 frontage road stands the Palm School building, best known as an elementary school that stood in service to communities of East Austin for 84 years before closing in 1976. Palm School and Palm Park have played important roles in the life of communities along Waller Creek.
History of Symphony Square
Symphony Square was originally designed as a southeastward extension of Waterloo Park starting in 1971, now revived to serve as home of the Waterloo Greenway.
Creek Show 2019
Creek Show, now in its sixth year, is a free, open-to-the-public display of light-based art installations along Waller Creek in downtown Austin. Come walk along Waller Creek between 9th St. and 12th St. to view the art designed to bring attention to the future revitalization of Waller Creek and its transformation into a series of urban parks. This family-friendly event attracted over 50,000 visitors from all over Austin last year.
Symphony Square Becomes New Home for Waterloo Greenway
Symphony Square, a hidden jewel along Waller Creek, has been revived by the Waterloo Greenway after a four-month restoration project. The historic site is a rare oasis in downtown Austin and a time capsule that represents so many memories and stories associated with it.

150-Ton Heritage Live Oak Finds A New Home in Waterloo Park
Thanks to a partnership between the State of Texas, the City of Austin, and Waterloo Greenway, a heritage live oak from the State Capitol Complex was relocated to Waterloo Park on February 24, 2019.
