Over the past few months, Palm School has been in the news as Travis County debates the future of the site. This historic building stands on the corner of Cesar Chavez and IH-35, best known as an elementary school in service to East Austin communities of color for over 80 years.
History of Palm School
On the corner of Cesar Chavez and the IH-35 frontage road stands the Palm School building, best known as an elementary school that stood in service to communities of East Austin for 84 years before closing in 1976. Palm School and Palm Park have played important roles in the life of communities along Waller Creek.
