Wild Waterloo Recap

Thanks to everyone who came out for our Wild Waterloo events this summer at Waterloo Park!

On July 26, we partnered with Red River Cultural District to present Hot Summer Mornings, the playful daytime counterpart to their music-focused Hot Summer Nights. The day started with a flow yoga class on the lawn with Vanessa Burden, followed by refreshments, activities, and energizing tunes from DJ Mahealani on the Meredith Heritage Tree Deck. Our community partners offered up various arts and crafts activities, plus captivating science experiments and nature lessons. Mom & Pop’s paletas were a favorite – so many flavors and so refreshing! Plus ice cold water, yerba maté, and sparkling water.

On August 9, our Bugs, Birds, and Bats event brought more action to the Meredith Heritage Tree Deck and throughout the park, as we learned about our flying, winged, and multi-legged friends who make their home at Waterloo Park! Visitors enjoyed a bat talk and demo with Austin Bat Refuge, and explored the park during a tour led by Waterloo Greenway, Families in Nature, and Monarch Sanctuary Project. Kids and adults alike wound their way along sidewalks and scramble paths in search of critters, plants, and other fun items throughout the park.

Everyone took comfort in the shade of the tree deck and enjoyed engaging activities at the booths presented by our community partners, plus a reading of Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar, read by Sonia from the Monarch Sanctuary Project. Throughout the event, DJ Diego the Fuego provided fun tunes and good vibes for all!
