Waterloo Park Honors Día de los Muertos With First Two-Day Celebration

This year Waterloo Park hosted its second annual Día de los Muertos festival, a two-day celebration held on November 1, All Saints Day, and November 2, All Souls Day. Nearly 6,000 guests attended and enjoyed dozens of community vendors, partner organizations, and three nightly performances at Moody Amphitheater!

During both days, attendees experienced free live music and dance performances presented by LALO Tequila. Performers included Mariachi Corazon de Tejas, Ballet Folklorico MariCruz, Danza Azteca Guadalupana de Austin, DJ Pos Guau, and DJ Abe the Assassin.

Kids participated in various hands-on activities in the Family Zone presented by Applied Materials Foundation and enjoyed Calavera Face Painting presented by Dell Children’s Medical Center. Activations by community partners onsite included Avance-Austin, Con Mi Madre, Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, Latinitas, MAS Cultura, and Todos Juntos.

Local businesses, Latinx craft artisan booths, and food vendors were also available onsite, with live artists Carmen Rangel and Ruben Esquivel featured throughout the event. Community members were invited to adorn two Moody Amphitheater altars with photos, flowers, food, and mementos to honor their departed family members, friends, and pets.

Special thanks to all of our incredible local artists, performers, vendors, and sponsors for helping us bring our two-day Día de los Muertos celebration to life.
