Waller Creek Conservancy supports a lowered I-35

Dear Friends of Waller Creek:

The Waller Creek Conservancy supports a lowered I-35 and we encourage you to show your support too!

Built more than 50 years ago, I-35 will soon undergo a complete overhaul to accommodate the unprecedented growth and traffic congestion in Central Texas. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is conducting an environmental study of the corridor and will decide between two options, both of which will reduce congestion. However, only the Lowered Option creates the opportunity to improve the quality of life in our city.

I-35 has long represented a barrier dividing our community. This condition is apparent at Palm Park on Waller Creek. Lowering I-35 offers the opportunity to restore connections between East Austin, Downtown, Palm Park, and the Waller Creek parks district. The Lowered Option is an opportunity to address the vital mobility benefits for the region while improving connectivity and mitigating sound. This option presents a win for regional vehicle mobility AND our local community.

Update: Comments to TxDOT have now closed. Please check back for updates.
