AUSTIN, Texas – Waller Creek Conservancy announced BBVA Compass as its lead corporate partner in the Waller Creek Park Community Program today.
The ambitious Waller Creek Park project, which stretches from Lady Bird Lake to 15th Street, includes 35 acres of new and redeveloped parkland, more than three miles of pedestrian and bicycle trails, and the ecological restoration of lower Waller Creek. Waller Creek Park is being implemented through an innovative public-private partnership between the City of Austin and Waller Creek Conservancy, a non-profit organization founded in 2010.
BBVA Compass, a top 25 U.S. financial institution, will lend support for the programs that will take place at the future Moody Amphitheater in Waterloo Park. In addition to being a sponsor, the bank will also team with the conservancy as its community partner to create opportunities through charitable initiatives.
“BBVA Compass is excited to partner with Waller Creek Conservancy with our sponsorship of community programs at Waterloo Park,” said BBVA Compass Austin CEO Joe Petet. “We
believe that the vision of the conservancy in the redevelopment of Waller Creek will be transformational to our city. This initiative will not only provide stability to the creek structure, but will create new landscapes and exciting new venues for our residents from all walks of life to enjoy. This aligns perfectly with the purpose of our organization, which is to bring the age of opportunity to everyone.”
Waller Creek Park has been designed to accommodate the wide variety of ways Austinites use outdoor spaces and future programs and events in the park will promote connections between diverse groups of people.
Charitable programs that will result from the sponsorship include healthy living activities, art installations, and educational programming. The bank will also support community programs at the new, outdoor Moody Amphitheater, including a five-part community concert series, pop-up events, and an annual benefit designed to raise funds for programs and park maintenance. To kick off this incredible partnership, BBVA Compass will be the presenting sponsor of the 2018 Waller Creek Conservancy Benefit Concert being held on October 10, 2018, at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater.
“Waller Creek Conservancy is honored to receive this significant support from BBVA Compass. Our organizations are fully aligned in our commitment to innovation. To truly serve the evolving needs of our community, we know we must design, program, and operate these parks in new and exciting ways. We are grateful to be partnering with a corporate sponsor who leads in their industry and will be an example as we aim to do the same,” said Peter Mullan, CEO of the Waller Creek Conservancy.
