Waller Creek announces new additions to Board of Directors!

We are pleased to welcome Theresa Alvarez and Michael McDonald to Waller Creek Conservancy’s Board of Directors. These distinguished community members bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and decades of experience working in community service to the Conservancy’s mission.

Theresa joins the Conservancy’s Board with more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry and volunteerism in the Austin community. Theresa currently serves as Wells Fargo’s Vice President of Community Affairs for the Central Texas region (Austin, San Antonio, and the Hill Country). Additionally, she serves as the Treasurer of Frameworks CDC and is a board member at the Ann Richards School Foundation, East Austin Conservancy, and University of Texas Venture Lab.

Theresa is a graduate of the 2002 Hispanic Austin Leadership class, the 2008 Leadership Austin class, and a 2013 McBee fellow. Additionally, Theresa was a Wells Fargo Global Fellow in 2014 volunteering for the Grameen Foundation in Medellin, Colombia. She has received numerous awards for her service, including the Urban League’s community sweetheart award, in 2005, and the Cesar Chavez “Si Se Puede” award, in 2007.

Michael McDonald

Michael joins the Conservancy’s Board with more than 30 years of experience in City government and a deep knowledge of public safety and community issues. Michael began his career with the City of Austin in 1983 as a police officer and retired from the City in 2014 as Deputy City Manager, after having served as Acting Assistant City Manager of Community Services, Assistant City Manager for Public Safety Services, and Austin’s first African-American Assistant Chief of Police.

As Deputy City Manager, Michael oversaw Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Code Compliance Department, Community Court and the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Further, he has served on the faculty at St. Edward’s University as an adjunct professor instructing Community and Public Relations since 2005.
