Waller Creek Park

Waller Delta & Pontoon Bridge

New Connectivity

At the mouth of Waller Creek where it meets Lady Bird Lake, the Waller Delta is the deepest, most ecologically diverse section of the creek. A series of lightweight suspension bridges provides new vantage points and invites exploration of the creek beneath. A floating Pontoon Bridge serves as a vital connector from Waller Creek and the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail to South Austin, extending new opportunities for walking, running, biking, socializing, and commuting.

Palm Park

Shaded Respite

A historically important park with strong connections to East Austin communities, Palm Park will serve as a major entrance to the creek trail and central space for community activities. While already activated with family-focused events, including The Waller Creek Pop-Up Picnic, movie nights, and Sunday Funday, Palm Park will continue to become a destination that is accessible and engaging for families and children from all over Austin.

The Narrows

Intensified Urbanity

At the center of the district lies The Narrows, an area of new development along the banks of Waller Creek, enabled by The Tunnel Project’s elimination of the threat of flooding. Following the cues of the Waller Ballroom balcony and Easy Tiger patio, creek-facing properties may make use of new opportunities for outdoor seating, along with retail and art spaces within the existing architecture lining the creek.

The Refuge

Immersive Experience

Presenting a unique opportunity for discovery and exploration, The Refuge––an extended 8th Street Bridge––will serve as a creek-level space to engage with nature and an opportunity for year-round park activities and programming.

Waterloo Park

Vibrant Gathering Spaces

Designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh and Associates, Waterloo Park will include a variety of spaces that reflect the landscapes of Austin and Central Texas, including hill country gardens with oaks and native plantings, wetland spaces that create places for play and relaxation, expansive lawns for gathering and activities, and more than a mile and a half of trails within the park. At 11 acres, Waterloo Park is the largest park in the Waller Creek district. Located between 12th Street and 15th Street, the park will serve as the central gathering space for the Red River Cultural District, the emerging Innovation Zone, the Central Health Brackenridge redevelopment, and the Dell Medical School.
