BACKYARD STORY NIGHT

You’re invited to Austin’s favorite informal storytelling series! Popping up in backyards and outdoor venues around town, the idea is simple: anyone can participate and each person has six minutes to tell whatever story they want. BYOB | 21+

ANIMAL FACTS CLUB BOOK RELEASE AND NATURE FESTIVAL

Celebrate the biodiversity of Texas with Animal Facts Club on Austin Museum Day. Gather your family for this environmental festival featuring a reptile house, birds of prey show, and the release of Animal Facts Club’s brand new book. Local artist Jules Buck Jones brings over 50 animals to life with watercolor illustration, fact-filled narratives, and an accompanying deck of cards.

Singer-songwriter, King Princess, pays a visit to the live music capital of the world this fall. She’s played sold out shows across North America and Europe with festival debuts at Coachella, Glastonbury, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, and many more. We are so thrilled to have this artist-on-the-rise join us as we celebrate and raise funds in support of our vision for welcoming, wondrous parks in the heart of Austin. SYMPHONY SCARE!

Join us for a night of frights and delights at our first-ever Symphony Scare! A spooky new Halloween tradition on Waller Creek that is sure to make visitors shudder with horror and cackle with glee as we share ghastly folktales filled with ghoulies and ghosties and long-legged beasties and things that go bump in the night.

CONSIDERING MATTHEW SHEPARD

Tuesday, Oct. 22 | 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM | FREE

This unique performance documentary weaves the inspirational story of Matthew Shepard with musical selections from local Austin composer Craig Hella Johnson’s choral masterwork of the same title. This film offers a glimpse into the tragedy that led to the creation of the Hate Crimes Act and shows us how music can lead us to a place of hope. 

VITAL BY DANCE WATERLOO
Oct. 24, 25, 26, & 27 | 7:30 PM | FREE

This site-specific performance invites new audiences to discover, encounter, and experience dance in unconventional, forgotten, or overlooked public spaces within our city. You’re invited to be both a dance observer and a participant in VITAL, which is inspired by Waterloo Greenway’s revitalization of Symphony Square, Waller Creek, and the surrounding urban parks.
