Future Waller Creek

Life has been busy at the Waller Creek Conservancy this fall. To sum up: we unveiled the four final design concepts, displayed their design boards around the city for two weeks, witnessed presentations by the design teams to the jury at City Hall, hosted our inaugural benefit concert featuring Gary Clark Jr. at Stubb’s, and on October 18th witnessed a pivotal moment for the conservancy and for Austin when City Council affirmed the jury’s selected design team in a 7-0 vote.

We are thrilled about finally having a selected team after a year-long international design competition. Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc. and Thomas Phifer and Partners presented a stunning vision for future Waller Creek and we are thrilled to see their design concept transform 1.5 miles of downtown into a “Chain of Parks.”

The conservancy is getting closer to answering the question of what future Waller Creek will look like and encourage you to go to our “Final Four” website to see images of MVVA’s design concept (www.wallercreek.org/finalfour) to get inspired and energized. We invite you to virtually raise your glass with us to the conclusion of Design Waller Creek: A Competition and the beginning of an exciting new stage. Waller Creek’s time is now.
