Free Día de los Muertos Celebration Returns to Waterloo Park on November 1

Waterloo Greenway presents Día de los Muertos at Waterloo Park, with a free evening celebration including community altars, cultural activations, live music, and dance performances on November 1 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, long observed in Mexico, is a holiday now embraced globally with vibrant festivities that honor departed loved ones.

Día de los Muertos will transform the Moody Amphitheater stage into a community “ofrenda,” or altar, where visitors are invited to place images and decorations that honor their families and friends who have passed. The Moody Amphitheater ofrenda, supported by Siete Family Foods, will be designed by local Tejana florist Yliana Lara, Florcita Floral Design owner and community activist. Guests can remember beloved departed pets at a special Alebrijes Altar, supported by Love, Tito’s.

Bring the whole family to enjoy hands-on activities supported by St. David’s Foundation. Featured activities include Calavera Face Painting & Sugar Skull Decorating, supported by Austin Community Foundation. Themed cocktails and bites will be available from Veracruz All Natural, Eso’s Tacos, and Dorothy’s ATX. Visitors will be able to shop and support over a dozen local Latinx vendors and artisans on the Love, Tito’s Lawn. Custom art installations from local artists Ruben Esquivel, Laura Clay, and Ernest Ramirez will also be featured throughout the event.

Attendees can enjoy free live music and dance performances on the Moody Amphitheater stage, supported by PNC Bank.

6:00 PM – DJ Kick-It
7:00 PM – Danza Azteca Guadalupana
7:30 PM – Ballet Folklorico MariCruz
8:30 PM – Tusuy Sonqo – Peru
9:00 PM – Mariachi Las Coronelas

Please join us as we pause throughout the evening to offer brief periods of quiet reflection to honor and remember deceased loved ones.
