All are Welcome to Experience Waterloo Greenway’s Two-Day Cultural Celebration at No Cost to the Community, Thanks to the Support of our Generous Sponsors
Austin, TX — October 9, 2025 – Waterloo Greenway presents the return of Día de los Muertos at Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park, expanded for 2025 into a vibrant two-night celebration featuring community altars, cultural activations, and live performances on Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2 from 6:00-10:00 PM. Long observed in Mexico to honor departed loved ones, Día de los Muertos is now embraced globally and right here in Austin.
“Día de los Muertos is a time for remembrance, reflection, celebrating cultural traditions, and bringing our community together,” said Dr. Colette Pierce Burnette, CEO of Waterloo Greenway. “Waterloo Greenway Conservancy is honored to host this annual event for families to share stories, honor loved ones, and experience the beauty of art, music, and ritual in the heart of Austin.”
As guests enter Waterloo Park, they will cross a marigold-adorned and illuminated Bridge of Life, a transformative moment that welcomes community members into a place of shared cultural celebration, remembrance, and belonging, supported by Austin Energy. Waterloo Greenway will transform the Moody Amphitheater stage into a beautiful “ofrenda,” or altar, inviting the community to contribute their own photos, mementos, and traditions. The main ofrenda, supported by LALO Tequila, will be designed by local floral studio Teoxochitl Design. Community members can also honor beloved departed pets at a special alebrijes altar by Muertos Design, supported by Love, Tito’s.
Taking the stage at this year’s celebration, local performers will bring the vibrant spirit of Día de los Muertos to life through traditional music and folkloric dance, supported by PNC Bank. Community members can enjoy live performances throughout the two-day celebration by beloved local groups, including Austin Bats Dance Team, Mariachi Corazon de Texas, Danza Azteca Guadalupana, Ballet Folklorico Maricruz, Llamativa, Conjunto Los Pinkys, DJ Kick It, and DJ Cortez.
Bring the whole family to enjoy hands-on activities in the Familia y Niños zone, supported by H-E-B. Featured activities include calavera face painting with Central Texas Facepainting, take-home altar building with Creative Action, sensory-friendly mask-making with The Latina Foundation, and Storytelling Activities with Tomas Rivera Book Award.
Visitors will be able to support over a dozen local Latinx creatives at the Mercado y Más artisan market. Local food vendors will be serving up a variety of refreshing cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, and delicious bites, including: Tamale Addiction, Texas Drip BBQ, Acero Hearts, Churro Burro ATX, Hecho Por Penelope, and Peached Tortilla.
Lead support for Día de los Muertos is provided by H-E-B and PNC Bank, with additional support from LALO Tequila, Austin Subaru, Austin Energy, Delta Air Lines, Liquid Death, Estrella Jalisco, Love, Tito’s, Waterloo Sparkling Water, BCL of Texas, Downtown Austin Alliance, and the Powell Foundation.
