Día De Los Muertos Celebration Returns to Waterloo Park

Join us on November 1 & 2 as we celebrate Día de los Muertos at Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park!

Our free two-day celebration includes community altars, cultural activations, live music, and dance performances from 6pm – 9pm.

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, long observed in Mexico, is a holiday now embraced globally with vibrant festivities that honor departed loved ones.

Día de los Muertos will transform the Moody Amphitheater stage into a community “ofrenda,” or altar, where visitors are invited to place images and decorations that honor their families and friends who have passed. The Moody Amphitheater ofrenda will be designed by local Tejana florist Yliana Lara, an artist and community activist. Guests can remember beloved departed pets at a special Alebrijes Altar, supported by Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

During both days, attendees can enjoy free live music and dance performances by Mariachi Corazon de Tejas, Ballet Folklorico MariCruz, and DJ Pos Guau and DJ Chris “TejanoMan” Tristan, presented by Lalo Tequila on the Moody Amphitheater stage. Bring the whole family to enjoy children’s hands-on activities, including Calavera Face Painting presented by Dell Children’s Medical Center. Additional onsite community partners will include Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, Avance, Con Mi Madre, Todos Juntos, Latinitas, and MAS Cultura.

Support local businesses by visiting Latinx craft artisan booths and food vendors, with live artists Carmen Rangel and Ernest Ramirez featured throughout the event. Guests can also visit the Dos Equis Beer Garden to enjoy themed cocktails and snacks, as well as non-alcoholic beverages.

Lead support for Waterloo Greenway’s fall community and signature programming is provided by Ascension Seton, Capitol Wright Distributing, PNC Bank, and Tito’s Handmade Vodka, with additional support from Applied Materials Foundation, Powell Foundation, Tapestry Foundation, Fairmont Austin, Four Hands, LALO Tequila, Netspend, Rambler, Richard’s Rainwater, and Univision Austin.
