Waterloo Greenway’s Beloved Light-Based Art Event Reimagined to Celebrate the Opening of Phase II: The Confluence, Highlighting the Newest Chapter of the Park Project.
After a decade of lighting up upper Waller Creek, Creek Show is on the move, heading downstream to its most exciting home yet – Waterloo Greenway Phase II: The Confluence in 2026!
Since its debut in 2014, Creek Show has become an iconic celebration of light, art, and the evolution of Waterloo Greenway. Designed to evolve just like Waterloo Greenway itself, Creek Show has traveled from Waller Creek downtown to Waterloo Park over the years, always highlighting the transformation of Austin’s most dynamic urban green space. Now, it’s moving once again; this time to Phase II: The Confluence, the most ecologically diverse section of Waller Creek, set to open next year. This move marks a new era of Creek Show, returning bigger, brighter, and more immersive than ever in 2026.
“Creek Show’s next chapter is a celebration of everything we’ve built together,” said Colette Pierce Burnette, CEO of Waterloo Greenway. “As we work toward the opening of Phase II: The Confluence, we’re reimagining Creek Show as an even more spectacular experience; one that will celebrate our incredible community, shared creativity, and the natural ecology of Waller Creek.”
Waterloo Greenway Phase II: The Confluence is currently under construction, and will connect the community to Waterloo Greenway in a whole new way. This transformative new chapter includes the restoration of native landscapes, the creation of unique community gathering spaces, the restoration of Waller Creek, and the continued construction of a new green connective artery through downtown Austin. Construction is well underway, with the Hartman Bridge, located across Waller Creek on the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail, already open to the public. The months ahead will bring us even closer to Waterloo Greenway’s vision of a revitalized Waller Creek and extraordinary urban ecosystem with the power to bring the entire Austin community together.
“Creek Show has always evolved alongside Waterloo Greenway, moving to highlight each new chapter of its transformation,” says AIA Austin and Design Austin Executive Director and Creek Show Artistic Director Ingrid Spencer. “With Phase II, we’re entering the most exciting stage yet – creating an even more immersive experience where art, nature, and community come together in a whole new way.”
While this November won’t see the return of Creek Show in its usual form, Creek Show will return in 2026 at Waterloo Greenway Phase II: The Confluence as a larger-than-life artistic spectacle. With new awe-inspiring light-based art installations and immersive experiences in a transformed, one-of-a-kind public space, something extraordinary is in the works. Stay tuned for more updates as we count down the days to the opening of Phase II and the grand reimagining of Creek Show!
