Waterloo Greenway announces Día de los Muertos presented by Siete Family Foods, with a free evening celebration at Waterloo Park including community altars, cultural activations, live music, and dance performances on November 1 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, long observed in Mexico, is a holiday now embraced globally with vibrant festivities that honor departed loved ones.
The event will transform the Moody Amphitheater stage into a community “ofrenda,” by Local Tejano florist Jose Arrieta Hinojos (Teocochitl Designs). Supported by LALO Tequila, visitors are invited to place images and decorations that honor their families and friends who have passed. Guests can also remember beloved departed pets at a special Alebrijes Altar designed by artist Ernest Ramirez (@muertosclothingco), supported by Tito’s Handmade Vodka.
Visitors are encouraged to explore the artisan market featuring dozens of Latinx owned businesses and local creatives. Themed cocktails and bites will be available from Eso’s Tacos, Tamale Addiction, Texas Drip BBQ, Churro Burro ATX, and Maroches Bakery.
During the celebration, attendees can enjoy free live music and dance performances on the Moody Amphitheater stage, including:
6:00 PM – DJ Manny Mo
7:00 PM – Ballet Folklorico MariCruz
8:00 PM – Mariachi Corazon de Tejas
9:00 PM – Danza Azteca Guadalupana
Bring the whole family to enjoy hands-on craft activities, including calavera face painting and DIY sugar skulls and picture frames decorating. Please join us as we pause throughout the evening to offer brief periods of quiet reflection to honor and remember deceased loved ones.
Waterloo Greenway’s Dia de los Muertos is presented by Siete Family Foods, and sponsored by LALO Tequila, PNC Bank, with additional support from BCL of Texas, Delta Air Lines, Downtown Austin Alliance, Liquid Death, the Powell Foundation, St. David’s Foundation, Texas Gas Service, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, and Waterloo Sparkling Water.
