Celebrating 10 Years of Creek Show

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Creek Show 2024! We are so grateful for the Austin community’s embrace of Creek Show, both new and annual visitors alike! This year was special for Waterloo Greenway as we celebrated 10 years of producing this beloved annual event.

Creek Show was founded in 2014 as a new way to raise awareness and public support for the transformation of Waller Creek into a series of restored urban parks and trails. Over the years, Waterloo Greenway and AIA Austin have commissioned site-specific work by Austin-based architects, landscape architects, artists, and designers to bring the creek to life via creativity, imagination, and innovation.

Creek Show Milestones & Memories

2022: Creek Show returns to the winding Waller Creek path, and includes activations held at Moody Amphitheater and Waterloo Park 👟

2014: First ever Creek Show opens to the public for one night only ✨

2014: Creek Monster appears for the first time 👀

2015: Creek Show expands to 10 nights and draws over 10,000 visitors! 🌃

2017: The Waterloo Park model is introduced, allowing the community to see the park design up close (in miniature!) for the first time 🌳

2017: Creek Show includes an art-centric bike ride 🚲

2018: Symphony Square debuts as Creek Show headquarters 🎶

2020: Pandemic-pivot: Drive-by light display at Waterloo Park when the park is still under construction! 🎆

2021: First Creek Show to be held entirely inside the newly re-opened Waterloo Park, with performances taking place on the brand-new Moody Amphitheater stage 🎸

Over the past 10 years, Creek Show has inspired the community and illuminated various segments of Waller Creek, the Red River Cultural District, and the Waterloo Greenway project. As the event design and artist installations have often been refreshed from year to year, Creek Show 2024 featured a new layout, with guests beginning their experience at Waterloo Park.

Upon entry, guests discovered massive illuminated inflatable agaves on the upper lawn, part of the si-glo installation designed by dwg. and originally featured during Creek Show 2021. Additionally, all had the chance to check out Past Deposits from a Future Yet to Come* by Teresa Hubbard and Alexander Birchler on the Moody Amphitheater stage. This public video art installation features historic artifacts discovered along Waller Creek and offers viewers a chance to interact on stage with the images as they float, tumble, and travel across space.

Visitors then crossed Waller Creek for a stroll along Red River Street, where a wide variety of community partners and vendors were set up. As attendees approached Waller Creek, the imaginative nature of Creek Show took over with its sparkling, shiny, and shimmering vibes! The first installation was located just before entering the Waller Creek path, where guests encountered part of the Dream Pants installation designed by Bade-Schaffer and originally featured during Creek Show 2022.
